You will need to get the CS-400PRO programming software and an interface cable. Connect the transceiver to your computer, turn it on and activate the cloning software and activate "Read Clone", then go to "Common" file, "Key & Display" and delete text in the "Opening Text" cell (Usually reads IC400PRO). Finally activate "Write Clone" to download the new settings to your radio. The radio will beep and you will get a message "Clone OK". Turn everything off, disconnect and Bob's your Uncle! OR you could just stick your mitt over the front mounted speaker when you turn the thing on, which is way cheaper and less mucking around.::smile:

I use my PC with a 4m USB extension cord, Beldin PDA Adaptor and Programming cable. That way I can just run the programming cable out of a normal usb port, out the window and into the vehicle without having the extra expense of a laptop. The software is fast and easy to use allowing storage and retrieval of prewritten program files. This means that only about 60 seconds connection time is required between the computer and radio for reprogramming. ;-)

4 metre USB cord? I'm amazed you aren't getting data corruption over that distance.

The cord has an inline booster which works great!

That would help.
As long as it works, that's all that matters.
