Hi, I am after some info reguarding selecting a new uhf to buy. I have a gme tx4400 and can only select receive only frequencies between 465.000-485.000mhz, I would like a radio with a wider range of frequencies. This is going to be a home based radio and info on what aerial to use would be appreciated. I'm in the rural fire brigade and like to listen to firecom, police and alike. Cheers Jono.

Ooooooh mate.................. Rural fire are on vhf and you enjoy uhf cb.......
My choice would be the icom 208H.........That way if you need the radio for work, you jump on vhf, you want cb, you jump on uhf...The 208H is a duel band radio with heaps of functions....But please abide with the FCC rules and regs regarding where you can and cannot go on the bands
Depends which State we're talking here. And I can't see where it says JonoP is not from QLD, where they run VHF and UHF nets.
Cheers,
Luvo. (Who was in the QRFS, but now resides in NSW)

Cheers Roadkill and Luvo, I am in Rockhampton,Qld where we do use vhf and uhf in the brigade. However I want to set up a good base station at home just for the pleasure of listening to the pro's do there job and the odd call up to me mates. This Icom 208H looks good. I live 30kms out of Rocky and by the time i get home Firecom and Police are very scratchy (car based tx4400). Will a good Unit and aerial at home fix this? What sort of coverage can i expect with VHF? Thanks for helping out. Cheers Jono.
