Hi everyone. I just received my serial port lead to 3.5mm speaker jack for the IC-40S handheld and tryed programming it with the ICF-3 program (EX-2118) Rev 1.0 and when i goto the clone menu then select read radio or information it gets halfway through it then brings up a msg as follows
the rs-232C port settings - it cant be that
cloning cable connection - dont think it is, as the screen on radio scrolls through the channels.
apropiate cloning software for transciever. - it says it is for ic 40s
the revision number of the transceiver - i dunno what this means??????
more than 20k of disk space free. - there plenty of room

william Have you set the clone software as COM 1 ? Have you left the file attributes at their default settings?
Do you have WIN 95 or 98? Can you program the radio via the dosmode?
Have you recently re-installed your operating system over the top of itself.I did this once intentionally as an experiment.Tried to clone my IC-F2010 and the ex1764.exe refused to co-operate.
I used to have an IC-40S and had a similar problem.I re-formatted the hard drive and re-installed the operating system. The com1 port settings have to be accurate also.Leave the file attributes on default.
Periodically i would shut down the computer and then reboot it.Sometimes my clone was done via the WIN 98 and then i performed a few data transfers in the dos mode.
I have no idea as to why radios experience clone errors. They perform smooth and then have a conflict exactly when it is not wanted.
A friend of mine told me that the "correct handshake protocol" has to be accessed between a radio and computer.Everything has to be accurate.
Sorry if im not much help but it looks as though you might have to give the trial and error thing a go.Not sure if it is relevant but what operating system are you on? Millenium, Win 98 Win 95 Win XP.
Are all the files in the same directory or folder? Not sure but i think the ICT means Icom temporary file. Does it have an indication of file size as in 15kb?A radio tech once explained to me that the temporary file is fairly important.
Periodically when i had clone problems i checked this ICT file and it would show 0kb.Not sure what causes it but whenever there was a programming glitch the ICT file indicated a severe discrepancy in size.
