If you intend to program it yourself, you will need the programming software and a programming cable. It may also require a firmware upgrade.
Latest 8110 programming software is V3.02 Calibration software is V2.97 and firmware is V2.13
What frequency band is the radio you have? (Full model number will tell me, if you don't know)
General use..... do you mean UHF CB?
If you wish to use any other frequencies (for TX) you will require a licence and naturally, the radio must be capable of operating on the freqencies you wish to use.

rikjo,
I replied to your PM, but will post my reply here also, as it may be of benefit to other forum members.
Where you found that info, I guess on a label on the bottom of the radio, there should be another label with the radio serial number (S/N) with a barcode.
Under the barcode is the radio Model Number
It should look something like TMAB12-H600
From the other info you gave, if it's an H6, it's a 450-530MHz radio. If that's the case, it's suitable for UHF CB, however, the TM8110 can only store 10 channels.

I would ike to have a go at programming, any idea were i may obtain the software?

Can't help where to get the software.
Obviously Tait dealers have it, but they won't sell it to you.
Also, be careful with buying programming cables other than the genuine Tait ones (or equivalent).
Most of the cables on eBay just use jumper wires inside the connector and have no electronics in them.
They will work on some radios and not others.
The correct cable uses a MAX 232 IC plus a voltage regulator and other components to ensure correct voltage and signal data is applied to the radio and computer.
Dodgy cables have been known to cause damage to both the radio and the computer it's plugged into.
