When i first ventured into the UHF hobby my only radio was a IC-40GX.My last experience was many years ago and most of the radios functions have become vague by now.
From what i can remember the handy hint is a dealer button procedure and allows some extra flexibility in setting up selcall.Back in those days it would be periodically referred to as "The finger crippler".
To the best of my knowledge your IC-40GX dealer button procedure is "While pressing function, hash[#] and [CLEAR A] buttons all together at once power on with volume dial.
The function button will be on the side of handset. The hash and "Clear A" keys will be specifically designated on the number keypad. So if you can picture exactly how your two fingers and thumb of left hand are positioned on a IC-40GX then "Finger cripple" is relevant.
Basically one finger will be on the [#] key. The thumb would be on the [Clear A] button.Depending on how flexible your fingers are the other finger will have to be a contortionist to depress the function button.
HA HA HA HA! Those were the good old days.
