ICOM class this handset as their new low mid tier model.I am well aware that it does not quite have the bells and whistles of the IC-F4063.Purchased the IC-F4023T because of its pricing.I could not justify spending close to a thousand dollars for a handset as in the IC-F4063.Yes the F4063 has lots of features and a backlit keypad.

My previously owned IC-F40GT had a backlit keypad. It also had an impressive feature set.The CS-F30G application was quite comprehensive.F40GT had dealer mode, 256 channels and a 12 character line or a 24 letter with two line indication on radio display. My circumstances were different in the 40GT days and i spent $1,200 to purchase it.

Sorry to go off topic but i am explaining other models as a comparison. Not bagging the IC-F40GT or the IC-F4063.They are superb radios with an impressive list of features.Obviously their functionality accounts for why they are very expensive. To those who can afford them i say"Go for it! You will be impressed".

My IC-F4023T has exactly the same adjustable functions as the former IC-F40GT in context of dealer set mode. The 40GT does not have a alphanumeric character edit in its dealer mode. This is where ICOM included a nice little bonus for dealer mode of IC-F4023T.So henceforth my new toy has one extra item for its dealer set mode.

Upon exploring my 4023T dealer region this extra bonus was a pleasant surprise. There is a eight character limit. You can edit text for the handset channels while in "Dealer set mode".Choices can be selected as in uppercase letters or lowercase.Numbers or symbols can be chosen. There is no backlit numbered keypad. This does not bother me as i can anticipate that it helps to conserve battey power.

The F4023T has an impressive frequency coverage.ICOM specify a range of 450 to 520 Mhz.I performed experiments in dealer mode frequency edit.My handset accepts a frequency coverage of 427.4000Mhz to 534.8000Mhz.Initially it gave me quite a shock.WOW! Basically this model has more frequency coverage than my IC-F2010.The F2010I has an upper limit of 511.460Mhz.

My F2010 will accept 70Cms as in 438 to 439Mhz quite easily. Its lower limit is 431Mhz.Personally i regard my F4023T frequency coverage and acceptance as totally stunning.Have done tests with a separate radio and the modulation does not clip or drop out.It is steady and very clear.

Transmit audio has that typical Icom quality. It is not soft. There is enough punch without being overbearing or too loud.Clarity of modulation is exquisite.I suppose you could regard Icom transmit as being unique.Clear and sophisticated modulation with just a discreet hint of base.

I am quite happy with the pricing.Purchased this model for somewhere between $500 and $580.Some people may think it is expensive. This is not so because Icom class it as a low mid tier model. My previously owned IC-F40GT was about $1,100 in price and that was going back five years past.Obviously there is a large difference in pricing. So henceforth the IC-F4023T is a good bargain.

Good deal? Why? Because for my hard earned cash this model has an impressive feature set.Extra bonus in its dealer mode as per the alphanumeric edit.Incredible frequency specifications.427.400 mhz to 534.800mhz.Overall design of radio is pleasing to the eye.
