I trust this will benefit those who are new to the IC-F40GT(handset) scene.Transmit modulation for your commercial handset is very distinct and quite unique. If other stations comment that it is possibly just a tad on the loud edge do not panic.ICOM modulation will never be hard, harsh or overdriven. On the average you will probably receive reports of "Its a bit loud!"No problem as this situation can be rectified.Just enter the "Set Mode" region.Scroll along the menu until the parameter of "Mic Gain" is indicated. My motto is "We learn by experimentation"
Anyway the microphone gain function will have an adjustment selection of ' 1 2 3 4 5' You might have to set it back to 4 or at the most on "3". Personally i would not have it down to 1 or 2 for obvious reasons. Have done plenty of field tests and the 1 to 2 setting sounds too soft. You need a tad of punch or presence to the transmit modulation.Henceforth i recommend that 4 or "3" being the barest minimum will provide excellent results. I suppose '3' is comparable to a happy medium.
Actually this model periodically will confuse people. The modulation quality is so "EXQUISITE" that some stations will insist you are on a mobile/base rig.WHAT! You on a handset? Which model? Thats amazing! Superb audio there bloke! Cant fault it
.Some are not familiar with model designations and initially think Motorola, Tait, Kenwood. As soon as you mention ICOM reactions are allways positive.YES! On the average people will usually be surprised by "ICOM" modulation because it is so unique & distinct.
