Hi, I've obtained the programming software for TX3800 from the resources of this site under TX3600 - in addition I recommend the following in order to sucessfully install and run the programming software:
1) Download and install Virtual PC (free download from Microsoft site - www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx)
Note: (i) it is preferred to use a PC with a serial port and not via a USB-Serial adapter. I tried for ages but was unsuccessful to map to the designated serial port via the USB-Serial adapter (ii) the host computer must run the following host operating systems to install Virtual PC: Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition, Windows XP Professional, or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
2) Install Win95 or Win98 as the guest operating system within the Virtual PC shell (I only tried Win988). You would need the full installation software
3) Map the programming Com port number to the respective Com port number associated with the guest operating system as specified in the Virtual PC setup
4) Connect the programming cable from the radio microphone jack to the PC's serial input... and... PRESTO
Good luck...

Hi Dale, I have GME TX3600 PMR Version DS0019.1.00. I recently downloaded this version from the resources area of UFHWorld. What version did you successfully install on XP Pro?
Does anyone else know whether there is a more recent version available that might be compatible with XP Pro?

G'day Dale, is it worth upgrading to at least DS19.1.05 in terms of the software functionality, other than able to run the software on XP?... Does it have any newer features, tricks, bells and whistles etc that are worth pursuing?
Regards,
Jas

Well, I have learnt alot regarding the installation and differences of the GME software versions thanks to Dale.
Basically I think everyone's personal experiences are going to be different depending on: Windows operating System, availability of physical serial Com ports, USB-Serial Com Port Adapters, version of PMR software.
I have compiled a pdf document highlighting major differences between PMR DS19.1.09 and DS19.1.05 versions of software. This document outlines the obvious differences between the software versions but is limited to my understanding of both software and radio features and capability.
I will gladly email this document to anyone who's interested, or I'm wondering whether the ufhworld webmaster would like receive this document and modify it accordingly, and then post it onto the resources area????
Based on my experiences, I have found that:
1) DS19.1.00 will not run on XP (ie. it froze) but no problems on WIN98 (SE)... Maybe refer to my previous posting regarding Virtual PC to run it within XP
2) DS19.1.05 and DS19.1.09 will run on XP. I had difficulties establishing Coms with DS19.1.05 via a USB-Serial adapter though the actual program did work. After discussions with Dale it seems that he has no problems running this version on XP including the Coms. However DS19.1.09 worked like a treat for me using a USB-Serial adapter on XP.
3) it may be a trial and error process using a USB-Serial Coms Adapter if you don't have a physical serial port.
Cheers
Thanks again Dale for your assistance...:-D

I have been reading your posts between (Dale and RiverinaWaterBoy)and found them very informative so, thank you.
I had the same trouble with programming my TX3800 under XP.
I used Virtual PC with Win98 as guest, and after alot of messing around finally got the old DS1900.1.00 to work!!!
Since then I have aquired DS1900.109 works perfectly on Win2000, NT and XP.
Cheers and Thanks again.4

Hi Robbo52,
Great to see that information between Dale and I was useful... Just out of interest, when you used the Virtual PC (Windows 98 ), did you have an actual physical serial port or a USB port (with a USB-Serial adapter)? Personally, I did not have a physical port, but USB ports. I had trouble trying to establish Coms from the Virtual PC to an assigned port number (ie. Com 1 - Com 4)using the USB-Serial adapter, even though the programme worked well using DS19.1.00...
This question is not critical since, like you, I've obtained DS19.1.09...
