Greetings everyone. Sorry about the long absence. Currently busy with other projects. Learning how to use a Nikon digital camera. Also experimenting with new tyres. As regards work duties, the industry i am employed in is experiencing a busy period.
Have been partaking of long cruises in my spare time. Can not use the IC-208 as i busted the elevated feed for the scantenna bandspanner. But it will be attended to when time permits.
The handsets are used more during the summer and spring. It is now winter and my outside handset chats are at rare moments. It's bloody freezing outside. I be a lounge lizard and enjoy the comfort zone of my car.
So until the elevated feed is sorted out, the main work horse is my IC-F2010. The IC-F6063 has not arrived yet. I am not bothered considering it is a hobby. Have to admit that i am itching a bit for it to arrive. Busting to take a photo of the remote install. The head is being remoted exactly in front of my automatic gear lever.
It will be on top of a spring load lid. Under this lid is my spotlight toggle switch. Originally i wanted the mount bracket to be velcro secured. Have realised this is not ideal as the head has a certain weight.
So now the remote mount bracket will be secured on lid via drilling, so that it can be secured with little nuts. Am i paranoid? No! If the car is ever traded in i will just replace it with a new lid.
I have a terminal block under the dashboard. Eventually will connect the Garmin Quest to this terminal block to power it. So time permitting the " Escape" interior will look quite snazzy.
Contemplated a 'HF' rig but not sure. A radio tech explained to me that my 'escape' tonka truck suv rear end would be modified, so that a suitable antenna could be used in conjunction with the rig.
What puts me off is that people mentioned the lower side band scene has gone very quiet. Also that heavy duty mounting on the rear end might spoil the look of my escape. A stock 27 dregs radio? No thanks! Been there and done that in previous years.
Once upon a time, i played with a Uniden Grant XL. Apart from a few long distance interstate contacts on skip conditions, got weary of being mudded all the time. Did not understand enough at that period and should have invested in a decent HF rig.
