How difficult is it to update the firmware on a Series 1 T2020. Also what is the most up to date firmware available for that radio.

Any help is musch appreciated.

Cheers

The series 1 upgrade procedure varies, depending on what version is currently installed. The current firmware for T2020 S1 is V4.09 this allows windows based software to be used which can re-flash the firmware in the radio. Earlier S1 firmware requires the firmware IC to be removed from the radio and reprogramed in an EPROM burner.

Thanks digiteyes. My current firmware is V3.03. I take it by what you say this would require the IC to be removed and reprogrammed with an EPROM burner. You wouldn't know anyone in Perth WA that is able to upgrade it do you?

No, I don't, sorry.
It's probably easier to buy a new firmware chip from Tait, with the firmware already on it.

If you do contact Tait in Australia about getting a new EPROM with the latest version of firmware for that model, make sure you tell them the logic / control board number (They call it an IPN). It's a number that starts with 220-XXXXX-XX. This will dictate what firmware version the logic board will support. Of course, you'll need to open to the radio and unscrew the logic board to see the number. It's generally located around the edges of the PCB.

Thanks for the Info Socrates and Digiteyes. I contacted Tait but they won't supply direct to the public. However they gave me a couple of places in Perth to ring. Direct communications and Communications Australia. So I will give them a go. I managed to find the IPN on the logic board. by the way will a logic board from a series 2 fit into a series 1?
